Ahhh, reminds of those multiple times when I have crammed for an exam at the last minute…the difference was, of course, that I was not running for the VP (and potentially the Presidency). Obviously McCain-Rove are trying their best to get their un-vetted candidate up to speed to regurgitate the Bush talking points convincingly, however, being a quick study of the “masters” still can’t help Palin who is missing some very basic understandings (similar to trying to learn calculus without taking any of the prerequisites). During Charlie Gibson’s interview of Sarah Palin, there one section that struck fear in the hearts of fair-minded Americans: the snide “In-what-respect-Charlie!” response to the Bush Doctrine question. Arrogance and ignorance that ran rampant in our last President and been multiplied and magnified by this new VP nominee.
To put it more succinctly, TPM’s Greg Sargent: “Clearly, Palin didn’t grasp what Gibson meant by the word “doctrine” as used in a foreign policy context. She didn’t grasp that he was probing her on the question of overarching foreign policy vision — what set of intellectual guidelines should govern America’s conduct in the world and define how we view one of the central moral challenges of our time: Deciding on what constitutes proper use of our overwhelming military power abroad. Does Palin even know that competing foreign policy visions or doctrines exist and that the clash between them is one of the key things this election is all about? Does she even know that articulating and implementing such a vision is, you know, part of what a presidential administration does? Sure doesn’t look like it.”
