Of course, the White House will never admit that the President wants a health care reform bill WITHOUT the public option. It’s a game they play to try not to upset those Democrats that donated money and worked tirelessly for him during the campaign. You know those “activist left-wingers” who called, canvassed, and performed as internet watchdogs to readily dispute any misinformation about their candidate. And we pretend that the President really does wants the public option and he’s just being that super-savvy master politician that we all came to know and love. Ohhh, the truth can hurt…
How do I know he doesn’t want the public option? Because he hasn’t come to the American public to ask for our support as he did with other legislation he has championed: the huge bank bailout, auto bailout, stimulus package, and the continuation of the expensive Afghanistan war. Health care reform? Yes. Public option? No. He briefly mentioned the public option a couple of times, almost in passing, as one of many alternatives to assist uninsured Americans.
This past weekend, the President made his way to the Hill to push his insurance reform bill and AGAIN refused to voice his support of the PO which caused Lieberman to do a happy dance and Senate to search for a way to weaken PO even further. And now it’s being reported that the liberal and conservatives have reached an agreement to get rid of the opt-out PO and replace it with triggers. F*cking triggers! That’s a super-Democratic majority for you.
While I am not a policy wonk, I do know a few things:
(1) Last year in the “change” election, the majority of Americans voted for UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE (or something very similar).
(2) Poll, after poll, after poll, shows that TODAY, the majority of Americans still want a public option.
(3) The for-profit insurance companies are in the business of MAKING PROFITS! They will continue to raise rates, drop coverage for costly patients while they can, and refuse to accept patients who may need to actually use their benefits.
(4) F*cking triggers. After all the red tape assured to be there, supplied by campaign contributions, the triggers will be absolutely useless while Americans are unable to get affordable coverage and even some dying as a result.
The only question is “why doesn’t President Obama like the public option?” I would love for someone in his administration to answer the question, but I guess it’s left up to us to guess. Let’s see it can’t be money, he just approved to fund that expensive ass war with that corrupt government in a place where Al Qaeda is not. Maybe he’s trying to satisfy the “birther/socialist/marxist/Sarah-Palin-loving/Glenn-Beck-watching/teabagging right wing. They’ll never support or vote for him but they love the fact that the President will (continue to) fight a war, whether it’s necessary or not. I don’t know.
And while I am thankful everyday that I am frustrated with President OBAMA instead of President PALIN MCCAIN, I am still very perplexed about Obama’s role in the healthcare debate (and his decision on Afghanistan, incidentally, a friend of mine was called up and will leave around Christmas).
